HoofPAC ALERT
Illinois Bill SB1921 is set to be called for a vote in the Legislature
this
week.
It is important that this bill get the support necessary to pass.
Cavel
East in DeKalb, which mysteriously burned down shortly after being
purchased
and insured.... and just as mysteriously so did their other plant
Cavel West
in Oregon.... (is there such a thing as Belgian lightning, what
are the odds
of that happening twice to the same company?).... is trying to grandfather
their permits and reopen.
In l991 there were 14 horse slaughter plants operating in the U.S.
Today,
there are only two remaining in operation, both are in Texas. All
polling
from across the country over the last five years has indicated that
the
overwhelming majority (80-93%) of Americans do not want their horses
slaughtered for the gourmet dinner plates in France and Belgium.
That is why it
is important that we not lose ground or allow this horse slaughter
plant to
be resurrected from the ashes!
We urge all Illinois residents to follow in the footsteps of the
good people
and supervisors of Mc Henry County who voted 26 to 1 not to issue
permits
for the Van Damme horse slaughter plant to relocate there stating,
"it did not serve the public interest."
This is a national issue as horses from all across the country
would be
transported to Illinois for slaughter if this plant were to reopen.
So please all concerned and especially ALL
ILLINOIS RESIDENTS contact (call, fax, e-mail) as
many Illinois legislators as you can before
January 13th.
Express your strong opinion that Americans do not slaughter or
eat their
beloved horses. Horses in American culture are revered as a domesticated,
recreational, favored (not eaten) animals.
VOTE YES ON SB1921
