Dear .....:
This letter is in protest to your January 6th FEAR FACTOR segment
involving contestants eating horse rectum on national television
for prize money.
The segment not only made a mockery of our beloved horses but our
American culture as well. In this country, we choose not to eat
our pets, i.e. pleasure, recreational and sporting animals; animals
not raised in this culture for the edible consumption of humans.
In the State of California where it was represented that the segment
was shot, Penal Code 598c makes it a 'felony' to slaughter a horse
for human consumption and a 'misdemeanor' to offer or sell horsemeat
for human consumption. And in the State of Texas where it was represented
that the horsemeat was purchased, Agriculture Code Sec. 149.002
makes it a 'crime' to 'possess or sell horsemeat for human consumption.'
And bills are in Congress now to prohibit nationally the slaughter
of any American horse for human consumption.
If contestants choose to degrade and humiliate themselves for money,
that is their choice. If, however, FEAR FACTOR sanctions the cruel
slaughter of American pet and companion animals, disrespects American
culture and flaunts the law, that is the responsibility of the producers
and sponsors.
Thank you.
